VitaminB : Funny thing about Mad Hatters... I learned the origin of the term in a biology class in university. In the 18th/19th centuries, hatters would use mercury as a stiffening agent in their hats. The mercury vapours were inhaled by the hatters during the manufacturing process, causing neurological damage... hence, mad hatter. 08/28/12
